Colloidal Silver

Early 20th Century western medicine used silver as a prime antibiotic and anti-fungal until the 1930s. Then antibiotics became a major source of money for Big Pharma. .

As more and more antibiotics were created, the pathogenic microbes began evolving into resistant strains to them. The health dangers imposed by antibiotics by destroying friendly gut flora needed for digestion and immunity were disregarded.

Antibiotic use lowers immunity by destroying the good bacteria along with the bad. Lately, some fluoroquinolone based antibiotics have even permanently and painfully crippled those who had been prescribed them
.Here are some popular uses of colloidal silver:
- You can spray it onto burns to prevent infections and promote faster healing without scarring.

- You can also spray or dab it onto ringworm, boils, herpes sores, and warts for faster healing.

- If you're having bronchial problems or walking pneumonia, you can put some colloidal silver in a nebulizer and breathe it into your bronchial area and lungs directly.
- Small amounts taken daily as a tonic will give what some call a second immune system to guard against flues and colds. Easy and inexpensive if you make if you make your own.

- Colloidal silver drops can be used for ear infections without any harmful side effects. Some use it for eye and nasal infections as well.

- It can be applied topically for vaginal yeast infections or oral thrush (yeast infection). Could be useful for chronic jock itch as well.

- It can be taken early with the onset of a cold, flu, or bronchitis to get over it quickly without harming beneficial bacteria. Antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria.
- Colloidal silver can be used successfully to combat MRSA infections. MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is a staph infection that can be fatal and is now resistant to antibiotics. It usually occurs during hospital stays, but has become rampant enough to originate outside hospitals .
- There has been some success using colloidal silver with AIDS patients. It adds a layer of needed additional immunity while destroying existing pathogens.

Shrinking thyroid nodules

Modified Citrus Pectin - For two weeks, take six capsules, three times a day.
Zeolites - For two weeks, take two capsules every six hours and then slow down to two-four caps a day. Later bought the powder and now add a scoop to my smoothie in the morning for maintenance.
Selenium - Increased intake by eating four-five Brazil nuts several mornings each week. I routinely take one 200mcg capsule of selenium per day.
Stopped eating gluten and dairy (with the exception of a few slips) and reduced sugar intake.
Added a daily breakfast porridge of pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, cashews, coconut and cinnamon.
Daily smoothie with coconut water, scoop of green powder (such as Tonic Alchemy), blueberries, banana, one dropper for goji berry and schizandra berry drops, one dropper for reishi mushroom extract, 1/2 tsp of maca powder, and stevia. It's delicious and energizes me through the whole morning and early afternoon.

Coconut Oil Protects Liver

A new study published in the Journal of Basic and Clinical Physiology and Pharmacology found that Virgin Coconut Oil can protect the liver from toxic antibiotic drugs.

The study was done on rats. The rats were divided into four groups: one group received nothing, one group received a broad-spectrum antibiotic, one group received virgin coconut oil, and the last group received BOTH the antibiotic drug and virgin coconut oil.

As was to be expected, there was no liver damage in the groups receiving nothing or just virgin coconut oil. But while the group receiving the drug saw adverse effects to their livers, the group receiving both the drug and virgin coconut oil did not, suggesting that virgin coconut oil offers a protective effect from toxic drugs: “The results of this study demonstrate that the active components of coconut oil had protective effects against the toxic effects induced by TMP-SMX administration, especially in the liver of rats.

The health benefits of Water

Water is a fundamental part of our lives. It is easy to forget how completely we depend on it. Human survival is dependent on water -- water has been ranked by experts as second only to oxygen as essential for life. The average adult body is 55 to 75% water. 2/3 of your body weight is water (40 to 50 quarts). A human embryo is more than 80% water. A newborn baby is 74% water. Everyday your body must replace 2 1/2 quarts of water. The water you drink literally becomes you! Since such a large percentage of our bodies is water, water must obviously figure heavily in how our bodies function. We need lots of fresh water to stay healthy.

Water is the medium for various enzymatic & chemical reactions in the body. It moves nutrients, hormones, antibodies, & oxygen through the blood stream & lymphatic system. The proteins & enzymes of the body function more efficiently in solutions of lower viscosity. Water is the solvent of the body & it regulates all functions, including the activity of everything it dissolves & circulates.

Water helps regulate our body temperature through perspiration, which dissipates excess heat & cools our bodies.
We even need water to breathe! As we take in oxygen & excrete CO2, our lungs must be moistened by water. We lose about 1 to 2 pints of water each day just exhaling.
Asthma is frequently relieved when water intake is increased. Histamine plays a key role in regulating the way the body uses & distributes water & helps control the body' s defense mechanisms. In asthmatics, histamine level increases with dehydration. Our defense for the body is to close down the airways.
The kidneys remove wastes such as uric aced, urea & lactic acid, all of which must be dissolved in water. When there isn't sufficient water, those wastes are not effectively removed, which may result in damage to the kidneys.
Water lubricates our joints. The cartilage tissues found at the ends of long bones & between the vertebrae of the spine hold a lot of water, which serves as a lubricant during the movement of the joint. When the cartilage is will hydrated, the two opposing surfaces glide freely, & friction damage is minimal. If the cartilage is dehydrated, the rate of "abrasive" damage is increased, resulting in joint deterioration & increased pain.
The actively growing blood cells in the bone marrow take priority over the cartilage for the available water that goes through the bone structure.
Rheumatoid joint pain frequently decreases with increased water intake & flexing exercises to bring more circulation to the joints.
75% of the upper body weight is supported by the water volume that is stored in the spinal disc core. 25% is supported by the fibrous materials around the disc. The spinal joints are dependent on different hydraulic properties of water which is stored in the disc core. Back pain is frequently alleviated with hydration.
Brain tissue is 85% water. Although the brain is only 1/50th of the body weight, it uses 1/20th of the blood supply. With dehydration, the level of energy generation in the brain is decreased. Depression & chronic fatigue syndrome are frequently results of dehydration.
Migraine headaches may be an indicator of critical body temperature regulation at times of "heat stress." Dehydration plays a major role in bringing on migraines. Dehydration causes stress & stress causes further dehydration.

Water losses

Adults lose nearly 6 pints (12 cups) of water every day. We lose 1/2 cup to 1 cup a day from the soles of our feet. Another 2 to 4 cups is lost from breathing. Perspiration accounts for another 2 cups. Another 3 pints (6 cups) are lost in urine.

When the body is dehydrated, a form of rationing & distribution goes into play to ration the available water. Since the body has no reserve system, it operates a priority distribution system for the amount that has been made available by intake.

The body's signals of dehydration are frequently joint pain, stomach pain & ulcers, back pain, low energy, mental confusion & disorientation. Numerous disease symptoms respond to increased water intake.

If you're not drinking sufficient water, your body starts retaining water to compensate for this shortage. To eliminate fluid retention, drink more water, not less. If you don't drink enough water to maintain your body's fluid balance, you can impair every aspect of your body's physiological function.

The "dry mouth" signal is the last outward sign of extreme dehydration. As our bodies try to adjust to being deprived of water, our thirst mechanism becomes disabled. The only time we receive the "dry mouth" signal is as the last outward sign of extreme dehydration. In addition, the thirst sensation gradually decreases with age. The result is increasing dehydration. As we start to give our bodies more water, the thirst mechanism begins to work again, but doesn't become fully apparent until our bodies are fully hydrated. When we are getting sufficient water, we're often thirsty.

Helping your Adrenals

Adrenal fatigue is a form of exhaustion that occurs  in your Adrenals. The adrenals main function is to release the hormones which handle different types of stress responses through the system. These particular hormones support the entire body in fight-or-flight events, in recovery of strain, and in mending the harm that strain causes throughout the system. It is very important keep in mind in the event the term "stress" is used, it really is dealing with physical, emotional, and or psychological.

The adrenals can usually get worn down because of  emotional stress or  poor health. When the adrenal glands are not sufficiently strong to keep up with the level of anxiety in the body, the body will use other ways to relieve as well as mend impact of anxiety. Insufficient adrenal performance as well as the resulting "overtime work" of other systems, through long periods of time can cause your body to get weary as well as lethargic. People may tend to try a cup of coffee, caffeine drinks, sweets, and soda for more energy, and after which keep them going, throughout the day.

The typical signs of adrenal fatigue is simply a fatigue which is not relieved with additional relaxation. There might not be any other noticeable symptoms, but most sense an over-all feelings of unhealthy well-being. Because the body system is required to function overtime to get better from various stressors and has to search for new means of energy it can look and feel unhealthy, sick, and really worn out. When the issue is never solved, a lot of these discomforts can turn into a great deal of larger difficulties for your system.

There are various home remedies and natural herbs to assist in adrenal fatigue. The herbs primarily intended for adrenal fatigue pertain to minimizing tension and toning up the heart. This will give enough time for the adrenal glands to restore on their own.

A particular well-known herb for adrenal support is called Siberian Ginseng. This type of Ginseng was used for a long period through the Soviet Union, to lower all-around tension. This particular herb offers a soothing affect in the event the body's system is either worn out or simply is struggling with different types of tension. While the body's system is free from additional strain it can start to relax and mend once more.

Hawthorn Berry is a further natural herb that helps with adrenal fatigue. Hawthorn will help your heart make use of the necessary oxygen it's offered, therefore reducing the pressure that's placed on it. It will help to enlarge the arteries and veins. This allows additional blood to run its course with decreased pressure on your arterial walls, which assists in lowering over-all blood pressure level. So in assisting to lower blood pressure levels, Hawthorn Berry can make it so your heart doesn't over exert. Adrenals generally assist in managing cardiovascular results with the heart depending on the stressor. Though this specific outside help, they don't have to function as hard, and are therefore able to rest and mend

Stress and your adrenals

If you have trouble with anxiety, fatigue, dizziness, irritability, or high blood sugar, your adrenal glands stress may be starting to catch up with you.
Your adrenal glands are two little triangular glands that sit on top of each kidney. They're small, but crucial for your body's functions. And when you're stressed, these guys take a beating.

When we're stressed out, we deal with it through a process called the "general adaptive response", which is divided into three phases:
First is the "alarm stage". You may have heard of the "fight or flight" instinct, and this is where your body gets ready to kick this in. You'll feel your heart rate go up, you'll start breathing faster, and your blood pressure and blood sugar will increase.
Next is the "resistance stage", and it starts almost immediately after the alarm stage. Once your body reacts to the stress, it adjusts itself to let you cope with the stress.
The final stage is called "exhaustion stage". At this point, your body has run out of energy to deal with your stress. This is when stress-related illnesses can show up.

Your adrenal glands produce a substance called cortisol. This stuff is critical to your ability to deal with stress and its effects. When your adrenals pump out cortisol too quickly, it can mess with your thyroid and slow down your metabolism.
If this goes on for too long, your adrenals lose the ability to produce sufficient cortisol, and that's when you hit the exhaustion stage. This puts you at risk for ulcers, heartburn, allergies, high blood pressure, and even autoimmune diseases and cancer.
Your adrenals also produce another hormone, called dehydroepiandrosterone, DHEA for short.
DHEA helps regulate some of the other hormones in your body, including testosterone and estrogen. When you're exhausted, your DHEA levels drop, which can result in a lower sex drive, lower energy levels, and a decreased ability to fight infections.
Managing stress goes a long way to support the adrenal glands. Some factors that improve adrenal function include:
Exercise, meditation, and a proper sleep cycle help immensely.
Proper nutrition is also critical. Your adrenals need vitamins B2, B5, B6 and C to produce DHEA and cortisol properly.
Herbs that are classified as "adaptogens", like Siberian ginseng, Ashwagandha, Fo-Ti, Rhodiola, and Holy Basil, strengthen the adrenal glands to improve their function during the resistance phase.
Acupuncture can also be used to improve adrenal function.

Turmeric and healing

Sometimes called “the Indian solid gold”, with properties that help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and common types of cancer, turmeric is fast becoming a superstar spice.
Turmeric gets its bright yellow pigment from an ingredient called curcumin, which is the essential part that gives turmeric its Alzheimer’s and cancer fighting power.
This spice originates from tropical South Asia, and is extremely popular in India. Studies have shown that the cancer and Alzheimer’s rates in India is 10-20 times less than that of Americans.
So why is this spice so “super?”  The orange root of the turmeric plant contains polyphenol compounds called circuminoids.
Ciruminoids have extremely strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which are the properties that fight Alzheimer’s and common cancer.
They have been shown to decrease brain tumor size in animals by 81 percent in more than 9 studies.
Researchers at UCLA have even found that curcumin is able to block cancer growth.
The spice has also been shown to help prevent breast cancer. Curcumin has been found to possess properties that reduce the expression of deadly molecules within cancer cells, and can potentially slow the spread of breast cancer.
Turmeric powder has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties comparable to steroidal and non-steroidal drugs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen). This also makes it an ideal antiseptic used in home remedies for wounds.
It reduces the inflammation, oxidation, and amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
It acts as a powerful antioxidant whose free-radical-scavenging activity exceeds that of vitamin C and most polyphenols, including vitamin E and the catechins in tea and the and flavanols in cocoa and dark chocolate.
It protects the cardiovascular system by lowering triglyceride and cholesterol levels, reversing cell-membrane damage, and inhibiting inflammation and platelet aggregation.

Fibromyalgia and cupping therapy

Some studies indicate that cupping, when combined with acupuncture, may reduce fibromyalgia symptoms more effectively than conventional medications such as amitriptyline. Cupping therapy is typically practiced by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. The theory behind cupping is that it moves or stimulates your body's natural energy — also called qi.
Cupping therapy involves heating the air inside a glass cup, which removes some of the air from the cup. The cup is then quickly placed on the skin, and the resulting vacuum pulls the skin part of the way into the cup. The cup may be left in place for several minutes and then removed, leaving behind a bright red, circular welt. In wet cupping, the skin is pricked with a needle before the cup is placed.
Studies of cupping typically measure the procedure's effectiveness by comparing it to that of other forms of treatment. However, high-quality research studies usually also include a group of people who receive a placebo — a sugar pill or a fake version of the procedure being studied. Because a sham version of cupping hasn't been devised, this level of quality is not yet available for cupping studies. So while some of the available studies do suggest a possible role for cupping in treating fibromyalgia, the definitive answer as to what its role actually is will have to wait for larger and more rigorous studies to be completed.

Kava Kava

Kava Kava Benefits

Kava is used to help one relax and communicate better with those around them. It has many additional medicinal properties, including it’s use as a diuretic, anti-anxiety aid, and to fight urinary disorders.
It’s also beneficial for fighting depression, fatigue, asthma, infections, arthritis and stomach upset. Taken in large amounts, the tonic induces a mild state of euphoria. While is does have sedative properties, it doesn’t induce the feeling of grogginess like prescription tranquilizers.
While Kava has been proven a useful treatment for anxiety and the feeling of nervousness, it is better used as an occasional remedy rather than daily.
Kava is very popular in Germany. Physicians there often prescribe Kava for anxiety before resorting to prescription medicines such as Valium. Kava has proven to be similar to Valium in it’s therapeutic effect.
The substance in Kava called kavalactone is what is believed to offer the anti-anxiety benefits of this plant. Unlike prescription tranquilizers, Kava leaves your mind sharp while it relaxes your body and relieves tension.
In a study conducted in 1993, researchers found that people using Kava for anxiety were able to perform the tasks that users of prescription anti-anxiety drugs are told to avoid, such as driving and operating machinery.
Kava is soothing to the muscles and is also used to treat headaches (This plant has the same effect of about two hundred milligrams of aspirin) and insomnia.
Another mostly unknown benefit of consuming Kava is for it’s anti-inflammatory effect on the urinary system. It has been used for Urinary tract infections and ailments of the bladder with some success. Kava is also relaxing to the uterus and is helpful to some women for relieving menstrual cramps.
Kava is popular with performers of music and also athletes. It helps to reduce nervousness of public performances and relaxes the muscles before an event. Since it enhances sociability, mental clarity and decision making, it can also be taken before important meetings of any kind.

Helping Glaucoma

The disease that is caused as a result of damage to the optic nerve due to abnormal high pressure inside the eyes is known as glaucoma. Glaucoma is of two types; primary angle glaucoma and closed angle glaucoma. It can be caused due to certain factors such as poor nutrition, stress, collagen deficiency and high blood pressure. Glaucoma causes loss of vision and blindness.
Glaucoma Home Remedies
There are several home remedies for glaucoma which are simple to follow and easy to use. Some of the common home remedies for glaucoma are:
A. One of the most effective home remedies for glaucoma is vitamin C. It is an antioxidant which is water soluble and helps in improving vision and relieving the eye pressure. But remember to consult your physician before taking any supplements.
B. Consume lots of fruits and vegetables in order to get essential amines. Drink water or other healthy fluids in small amounts after fixed interval of time.
C. Rutin is also one of the effective home remedies for glaucoma. It is rich in vitamin C and is also a bioflavonoid. It is known to increase the metabolism of collagen in the eye. All you need to do is consume 40 to 60 mg of rutin three times in a day. This will reduce the pain and will be very beneficial in treating glaucoma.
D. Marijuana is very helpful in lowering intraocular pressure and gives immediate effect. But remember not to use this method regularly due to certain obvious reasons.
E. Jabarandi is an ayurvedic herb which is found in Indian subcontinent. This herb has been used since a very long time for treating glaucoma. It contains pilocarpine which is very helpful in treating glaucoma.
f
F. Vitamin A and vitamin B are very effective in treating glaucoma. Vitamin B improves the eye sight whereas vitamin A improves the night vision. Just consume 1000 mg each of these vitamins on regular basis in form of multi vitamin supplement tablets or you can consume food rich in these vitamins. Consult your physician before trying any supplements.
G. Ginkgo bilboa is also very beneficial for glaucoma ailment. It increases blood supply to the optic nerves which results in detoxification. In order to slow down the deterioration of optic nerves you should try adding sulfate of zinc in ginkgo bilboa.
H. Consume food rich in vitamin E which will help in clearing the retina and cornea. This will make your eyes healthy and improve the vision. You can even try vitamin E supplements but consult your doctor before taking such supplements.
I. Berries are very effective in curing glaucoma. Bilberry helps in giving strength to retina and optic nerves.
J. Fennel can also prove to be very effective in treating glaucoma. You can eat it raw or use in salad. Those who do not like to eat it can try making a tea out of fennel and then drink it.
K1. Spinach is a good source of carotenoid. This carotenoid is very helpful for the eye tissues and retina. Therefore try to eat spinach on regular basis.
These were some of the most effective, safe, and easy to use home remedies for glaucoma.

Turmeric

Turmeric, an orange-colored spice imported from India, is part the ginger family and has been a staple in Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian cooking for thousands of years.

In addition, ayurvedic and Chinese medicines utilize turmeric to clear infections and inflammations on the inside and outside of the body. But beyond the holistic health community, Western medical practitioners have only recently come on board in recognizing the benefits of turmeric.

Blocking cancer
Doctors at UCLA recently found that curcumin, the main component in turmeric, appeared to block an enzyme that promotes the growth of head and neck cancer.

In that study, 21 subjects with head and neck cancers chewed two tablets containing 1,000 milligrams of curcumin.  An independent lab in Maryland evaluated the results and found that the cancer-promoting enzymes in the patients’ mouths were inhibited by the curcumin and thus prevented from advancing the spread of the malignant cells.

Powerful antioxidant
The University of Maryland’s Medical Center also states that turmeric’s powerful antioxidant properties fight cancer-causing free radicals, reducing or preventing some of the damage they can cause.

While more research is necessary, early studies have indicated that curcumin may help prevent or treat several types of cancer including prostate, skin and colon.

Potent anti-inflammatory
Dr. Randy J. Horwitz, the medical director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine and an assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, wrote a paper for the American Academy of Pain Management in which he discussed the health benefits of turmeric.

“Turmeric is one of the most potent natural anti-inflammatories available,” Horwitz states in the paper.

He went on to cite a 2006 University of Arizona study that examined the effect of turmeric on rats with injected rheumatoid arthritis. According to Horwitz, pretreatment with turmeric completely inhibited the onset of rheumatoid arthritis in the rats. In addition, the study found that using turmeric for pre-existing rheumatoid arthritis resulted in a significant reduction of symptoms.

“Raw is best”
Natalie Kling, a Los Angeles-based nutritionist, says she first learned about the benefits of turmeric while getting her degree from the Natural Healing Institute of Neuropathy. “As an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiseptic, it’s a very powerful plant,” she says.

Kling recommends it to clients for joint pain and says that when taken as a supplement, it helps quickly. She advises adding turmeric to food whenever possible and offers these easy tips. “Raw is best,” she said. “Sprinkling it on vegetables or mixing it into dressings is quick and effective.”

If you do cook it, make sure to use a small amount of healthy fat like healthy coconut oil to maximize flavor.  Kling also recommends rubbing turmeric on meat and putting it into curries and soups.

“It’s inexpensive, mild in taste, and benefits every system in the body,” Kling says. "Adding this powerful plant to your diet is one of the best things you can do for long term health.”

Healing with Apple Cider Vinegar

What is Apple Cider Vinegar?

Organic apple cider vinegar is unpasteurized and contains what is known as mother of vinegar which makes the vinegar appear somewhat cloudy. To make apple cider vinegar, apples are crushed, and the juice is squeezed out. Bacteria and yeast added to the juice create a fermented product.

Research, to date, supports the use of apple cider vinegar for a number of ailments including:

Diabetes

A 2007 study demonstrated that diabetics who took apple cider vinegar had lower glucose levels than those who did not. In fact, when participants took two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before they went to bed, they lowered their glucose levels by 4%-6%.

Another study, conducted by Arizona State University, participants who drank apple cider vinegar had a 34% lower blood glucose level after a meal than the control group. Sadly, most people with diabetes do not take apple cider vinegar.

Cholesterol

Medscape General Medicine reported a 2006 study that showed the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar in increasing good cholesterol levels. Animal research supports the fact that this vinegar can control both triglycerides and cholesterol.

Cancer

Apple cider vinegar may kill cancer cells or retard their growth. According to one study, consuming organic apple cider vinegar also decreased the risk of esophageal cancer. In clinical trials, pectin, contained in apple cider vinegar, has been shown to slow the growth of cancerous cells within the prostate. Apple cider vinegar cleanses the colon which also supports a healthy prostate.

Weight Loss

Vinegars of all kinds have been used for a very long time as a weight loss aid because they help make you feel full. A study conducted with 12 people found that those who ate a piece of bread with apple cider vinegar felt fuller than those who ate the bread alone.

In another study, overweight Japanese participants were grouped based on body weight, body mass indexes and waist size. Members of each group drank 30 ml, 15 ml or 0 ml of this vinegar per day for 12 weeks. The people who drank 30 ml and 15 ml, had lower BMI, waist circumference and visceral fat than those in the control group that did not drink apple cider vinegar.

Blood Pressure

Research suggests that apple cider vinegar may lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. The potassium in this vinegar helps to balance sodium levels in the body, which keeps blood pressure steady. In addition, this vinegar also contains magnesium, which helps to relax blood vessel walls resulting in a lowering of blood pressure.

More Uses

Other recent findings suggest that apple cider vinegar may be useful in killing head lice, reversing the effects of aging, reducing acne, relieving allergies, reducing heartburn and easing digestion.

Apple cider vinegar is a healthy hair rinse, can be applied to sunburn, can be used to remove stains from teeth and is useful for fast-acting relief of insect bites.

Ingredients: 12 oz glycerine
...
Olive oil 3 oz

Cloves tincture. 12 oz

15 drops citronella essential oil (I use a bit more)

15 drops lemon grass oil (I use a bit more)

15 drops peppermint essential oil 10 drops tea tree oil (optional, but it works against ticks)

A funnel

An empty spray container

An empty mixing jar to mix the contents in

Magnesium deficiency

Magnesium Deficiency Triggers or Causes
The Following Conditions:

  1. Anxiety and Panic attacks- Magnesium (Mg) normally keeps adrenal stress hormones under control.
  2. Asthma- Both histamine production and bronchial spasms increase with Mg deficiency.
  3. Blood clots- Mg has an important role to play in preventing blood clots and keeping the blood thin-much like aspirin but without the side effects.
  4. Bowel disease- Mg deficiency slows down the bowel causing constipation, which could lead to toxicity and malabsorption of nutrients, as well as colitis.
  5. Cystitis- Bladder spasms are worsened by Mg deficiency.
  6. Depression-Serotonin, which elevates moods, is dependent on Mg. A Mg-deficient brain is also more susceptible to allergens, foreign substances that can cause symptoms similar to mental illness.
  7. Detoxification- Mg is crucial for the removal of toxic substances and heavy metals such as aluminum and lead.
  8. Diabetes- Mg enhances insulin secretion, facilitating sugar metabolism. Without Mg insulin is not able to transfer glucose into cells. Glucose and insulin build up in the blood causing various types of tissue damage.
  9. Fatigue- Mg-deficient patients commonly experience fatigue because dozens of enzyme systems are under-functioning. An early symptom of Mg deficiency is frequently fatigue.
  10. Heart disease- Mg deficiency is common in people with heart disease. Mg is administered in hospitals for acute myocardial infarction and cardiac arrhythmia. Like any other muscle, the heart muscle requires Mg. Mg is also used to treat angina, or chest pain.
  11. Hypertension- With insufficient Mg, spasm of blood vessels and high cholesterol occur, both of which lead to blood pressure problems.
  12. Hypoglycemia- Mg keeps insulin under control; without Mg episodes of low blood sugar can result.
  13. Insomnia- Sleep-regulating melatonin production is disturbed without sufficient Mg.
  14. Kidney Disease- Mg deficiency contributes to atherosclerotic kidney failure. Mg deficiency creates abnormal lipid levels and worsening blood sugar control in kidney transplant patients.
  15. Liver Disease leading to liver failure- Mg deficiency commonly occurs during liver transplantation.
  16. Migraine- Serotonin balance is Mg-dependent. Deficiency of serotonin can result in migraine headaches and depression.
  17. Musculoskeletal conditions- Fibrositis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, eye twitches, cramps and chronic neck and back pain may be caused by Mg deficiency and can be relieved with Mg supplements.
  18. Nerve problems- Mg alleviates peripheral nerve disturbances throughout the whole body, such as migraines, muscle contractions, gastrointestinal spasms, and calf, foot and toe cramps. It is also used in treating central nervous symptoms of vertigo and confusion.
  19. Obstetrics and Gynecology- Mg prevents Premenstrual Syndrome; prevents dysmenorrhea (cramping pain during menses); is important in the treatment of infertility; and alleviates premature contractions, preeclampsia, and eclampsia in pregnancy. Intravenous Mg is given in obstetrical wards for pregnancy-induced hypertension and to lessen the risk of cerebral palsy and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Mg should be a required supplement for pregnant mothers.
  20. Osteoporosis- Use of calcium with Vitamin D to enhance calcium absorption without a balancing amount of Mg causes further Mg deficiency, which triggers a cascade of events leading to bone loss.
  21. Raynaud’s Syndrome- Mg helps relax the spastic blood vessels that cause pain and numbness of the fingers.
  22. Tooth decay- Mg deficiency causes an unhealthy balance of phosphorus and calcium in saliva, which damages teeth. Material excerpted from Dean, Carolyn. The Miracle of Magnesium (2003 Ballantine Books: New York, NY), 2003
